The Killing Sea Dream House
Jan 28

While browsing through Target’s book section (notice I said browsing – I didn’t actually buy any books as I’m really trying to read the ones I already have) I found quite a few novels with really beautiful, sunny covers. They all sound like breezy reads and would probably be perfect while sitting on my back patio, enjoying a nice big glass of ice tea. Since I live in the North East, I don’t think I’ll be getting that opportunity anytime soon. Oh well, one can dream!

If you were in warmer climates (let’s  pretend we are on some beautiful Caribbean island right now, shall we?) what books would you bring with you?

Twenties Girl is sitting in my TBR stack right now — I was so eager to read it when it came out, and somehow I’ve managed to just keep pushing it farther and farther back. Argh! And The School Of Essential Ingredients has a gorgeous cover… I have the hardcover (also unread) and really prefer that new one. Can’t wait for the warm weather! :)

I too hope to read Twenties Girl and LOVE the hardcover cover, but usually wait until books are out on paperback to read (although the paperback version of Twenties Girl isn’t as attractive)!

I’m pretty sure that I have picked up that True Colors book at least twice in hardcover (on the bargain table) and then put it back. Actually no.. I just checked Amazon and it was another book by the same author, Firefly Lane! How odd that out of all the books in this post it was one by an author that had caught my eye before.

I guess I should pick both of them up at some point! The covers on her books really catch my eye!

We are reading Firefly Lane for our book club (to meet in March) so will probably pick that up to read sometime this week!

I loved Twenties Girl. It’s a really fun read. Light, but with some thoughtful parts and really funny. I have read other books by Kristin Hannah and think I have True Colors around here. I also have the Beach Street book. I like the cover on that. Is that the paperback because I think the hardcover had one that was different and not as pleasing.

I’ve never read any Kristin Hannah books Kay, but since we picked out Firefly Lane for our next book club read I will be soon!

I am always instantly attracted to the cover of Remarkable Creatures!

I could read The School of Essential Ingredients until the book fell apart. It made me feel all warm and happy inside. And it made me want to roll up my sleeves and create something amazing in the kitchen!

I love books about food and hope to read this one soon (plus I love the cover on the paperback version of the book)!

There is something to be said for gazing at pretty, “sunny” covers in the dead of winter. Coincidentally, I also browsed briefly at Target’s book section early this morning. :-)

My real life book club read The School of Essential Ingredients last fall and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend you read it and then have some yummy recipes to whip up for dessert when you’re done. :)

I recently read (and reviewed) Twenties Girl and really liked it – great beach read! Haven’t read any of the others but will add some to my TBR!

Elin Hilderbrand’s books (Barefoot, A Summer Affair) always look like they belong being read from a beach chair!

Impossible’s cover really caught my attention plus the title. I read it’s blurb at the link you provided and it’s really interesting. Curses and all.

I’ll chime in with everyone else and say The School of Essential Ingredients. What a wonderful novel. It made my Top Ten for 2009 and I’d love to give it a second reading. Love the new cover just as much as the hard cover version, but I wonder why they made the switch. I hope she’s working on another novel!

Warmer weather…. mmmm… That would be so nice right about now! It’s like 13 degrees here. Sucks.

True Colors has a very pretty cover.

LOL, that’s like my mom. She complains about it getting cold enough to put on a jacket and how her dog hates going out in 40 degree weather. She’s in Rio Grande Valley, Texas, and acts like it’s a winter emergency if the mercury approaches freezing! And to think, she lived most of her life up here in Indiana.

Warmer thoughts are fitting. We had a snowstorm last night and today, so I could use some.

All your choices and the comments sound ineresting… I will be in warmer climates in April and have to get a good beach list together! So far, I only have the mystery The September Society by Charles Finch (2nd in his series) on the list… I may have to go check a few of these out and put them on my list :)

Well I live in what is typically a hot state but it’s been cold this weekend so I’m reading a novel set on a beach. yea, trying to imagine summer already :)

                                Stay warm, Stephanie!

One year, when it was almost as ugly a winter as this one, we had a beach party for my son and his friends in January. We cranked up the heat, brought in a kiddie pool and a sand box, the kids wore their swim suits and sunglasses and they all got new beach towels. Maybe I should do that again–just for me with a great beach read in hand!

What a great idea (although I think I would have nightmares about having sand inside my house – maybe if I had a big basement to put it in)!

Oh, I have three books on my shelf right now that I KNOW would be perfect warmer-weather books. I recently read Beautiful People by Wendy Holden (April 2010) and one of my first thoughts was, “I should be poolside somewhere reading this book.” Elin Hildenbrand is another author that makes me want to grab a beach chair and head to the nearest beach.

It’s just SO cold…come on Punksy Phil…bring us an early spring!!
