Fun at BEA
I was lucky to spend a few days at Book Expo America last week. Not only did I get to see the bloggers who I met last year, I was also able to meet up with some new people I only know through my blog. It is so nice to put faces to the names of the many bloggers I’ve follow throughout the years. Plus I got to add some new blogs to my Bloglines and look forward to stopping by each and every one to say “remember me?”
Of course, since it is a book conference I came home with quite a few books. Most notably, I got to meet Allison Win Scotch, author of the new book The One That I Want (and who had guest posted on my blog last year) and Sara Gruen (of Water for Elephants fame) who signed an ARC of her new book Ape House
, which will be out in September!
While traveling back and forth on the train from New Jersey each day, I had Dennis Lehane’s novel Shutter Island to keep me company. I plan on on writing a review of the book after I watch the Martin Scorsese adaptation, which comes out on DVD next week, but in the meantime can tell you all that the book is one hell of a thrill ride! I’m curious to see how the film compares to the book and will share my thoughts will all of you soon.

It was great to meet you, even if it was briefly!
It was nice to meet you also. I wish there was more time to chat – maybe next year?
I missed being with you guys this year. I am really hoping to make it to BEA 2011!
I LOVED Shutter Island and am anxiously awaiting the June 8 release!
Missed you too Molly!!
Stephanie, it sounds like you had a wonderful time at (and traveling to) BEA. I hope you enjoy your signed copy of Ape House (great title and cover).
Susan – I agree – the cover of Ape House is great. The line for Sara Gruen was enormous, but I got there early and was fourth in line!
How did I not get a chance to meet you?? We were in the same room quite a few times, but I’m sure those rooms were packed. We’ll just have to make a plan to meet up for coffee some day soon!
Glad you had a great time at BEA!
Were you at the Book Blogger Con reception on Thursday night. I must have circled that room twenty times looking for you (which is kinda hard since I have no idea what you look like)!!
E-mail me and we will definitely meet for coffee (I really need to get down to Clinton anyway and see the new book store)!
Wow–I had no clue Sara Gruen had a new book coming out. I bet it is wonderful!
I want to see Shutter’s Island. It looks good.
Sounds like you had fun and met a lot of people last week. That’s what we all need, more books!!!!
Shutter Island on audio completely kicked my butt. I love it when a book just grabs you, and gives you a shake. Not many do that to me. Now the movie…they did a decent job of adapting the book to the silver screen, with the exception of the last scene. I will let you draw your own conclusions on which works better!
I was in line for the Allison Winn Scotch book, too. Somehow we missed each other.
There was so much going on that it was easy to miss people. Sorry about that!
I love Sara Gruen but a book about Apes is not my thing so I’m anxious to hear what you think about it. Maybe you’ll change my mind.
It was great to meet you, if ever so briefly! (We did meet, right? Since I’ve gotten back from BEA, I feel like I left part of my brain in NYC!) I just watched Shutter Island last night and now I want to read the book! (It’s a great movie.) And I heard Sara Gruen speak at the Author Lunch and I’m really looking forward to reading Ape House! (My book isn’t signed though…
)
Funny, I am not quite sure if we met (I came home with a stack of business cards and like you said, some of it is a blur)! Thanks for stopping by!!
I just went through my cards and we did meet (at the Algonquin Hotel, I think) because I have one of your cards! I’m now a subscriber to your blog. I’m looking forward to your review of Shutter Island!
We didn’t meet up again this year, but it was great to meet you last year. Somehow this year’s BEA seemed more crazy than last year!
Sounds like a great time–wish I could have been there to meet everyone! Can’t wait to see what Sara Gruen’s done now.
Sounds like you had a great time. One day I will have to make it to BEA. Oddly enough yes, of course the authors and books are a draw but I would just love to meet so many of my blog friends! Looking forward to your review of Shutter Island.
JEALOUS!! I can’t wait to hear what you think of Ape House. That’s one I’ll want to read ASAP.
Wasn’t Shutter Island wonderful?! I’m glad I read it before I started blogging. Not sure I’d know how to review it without all the spoilers. I can’t wait to see the movie. I’m hoping it’s been long enough since I read the book that the movie won’t feel too familiar.
Thinking of you this month…
Oh, I loved Water for Elephants, so I will definitely have to check out her new book!
I am sooooooo glad that you crashed my meeting with Jen! LOL. I would not have had a chance to talk with you if you hadn’t stayed. I loved Mystic River, but I haven’t yet read Shutter Island.
I almost didn’t recognize you with all that hair this year! It was so good to see you again! I’m totally jealous that you got Ape House!
It was great to finally meet you in person! I hope we have more time to chat next time
I so enjoyed meeting you!
I was either one of your line mates at Sara Gruen or Justin Cronin. I can’t remember which. We had a great conversation and I enjoyed meeting you. I have been non stop reading since BEA.I read I Am Number Four which was great, The Ape House which was good but can’t beat Water For Elephants, Radiance by Allison Noel, which left me sad and now am reading The Radleys which is a bizarre fun time. I am going to try to start a blog in the near future and hope we can stay in touch. Love reading your blog.
Pam – we met on line for Ape House! Thanks so much for stopping by my book blog. Let me know if you decide to start one of your own!!
